friends are relatives you make for yourself

March 18: neoteric
(nice one! Never seen it before.)
Of all the neoteric inventions to pass through my life, and even considering how often (and for how many disparate purposes) I use my cell phone, my favorite is still my iPod.

  1. Thunderstorm arrives, power outage! How do you occupy your time?
    if it's too dark to read, I'll just watch the rain - unless it's really dangerous-looking. I tend to be kind of lily-livered about bad storms and will sometimes hide out in the basement with very little provocation.
  2. Explain why you enjoy one of your hobbies. What do you get out of it?
    that's sort of funny; I was thinking about this earlier today (and I don't generally choose these quizzes with any prior knowledge whatsoever, rather just clicking one at random from my Draft pile). I like to make mix CDs, and I sometimes worry that my friends will think that it's because I think that their musical taste is crap, and that I am deigning to bestow upon them my bountiful musical knowledge. Far from it: my taste is an amalgam of all that I've experienced, most of which comes from exposure through my friends. The mix CDs are a sort of 'celebration' of that, intended more for as reinforcement of that myself than for condescension toward anyone else.
    Plus I just really like the songs, or I wouldn't pick 'em.
  3. Have you planned your funeral?
    not at all. What will I care? I won't be there.
    Yes, that's a flip answer. Practically speaking, though, I've got nothing (financially) with which to plan, and if I can't pay, who am I to say?
  4. Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
    Thanksgiving at Cat & Beast's. While we've dined from much nicer, snootlier service, and while the food hailed from a different genre, this photo has the same sort of 'down-home-y-ness' that I've come to equate with that holiday at their house. Good stuff.

  1. We'll have a powerfully stunning wake for you, if I have anything to say about it. But not for several more decades.

    And {{blush}}
