reachin' in to figure it out

  • What do you hear around you right this minute?
the fan on the laptop and my fingers on the keys. It's a very quiet night and I'm the only one still awake.
  • Whose laughter do you most enjoy hearing?
there's someone I miss very much all the time, and I'm missing him a lot right now. His laughter was one of the things that I enjoyed the most about him—he had this throaty chuckle that seemed to vibrate just the right way to make me laugh, too, right down to my bones. I loved to hear that laugh, which did not come easily and seemed to matter all the more because of it. If I could go back in time and hear it just once more, it would be a great gift.
  • Whose voice do you miss hearing most?
oh, there's irony (and a reason I should read ahead)! I've been thinking a lot about my friend Heidi lately, who's just had some big changes in her life and still manages to be a force of calm and good in my world. I don't know if we'll ever live in the same time zone again, and we manage pretty well regardless, but I do miss her voice and her physical presence anyway.
  • If you had to pick a recorded song or tune as your personal theme song, which would you choose?
subject to change without notice, most likely daily, I'm going with Sister Hazel's "Grand Canyon"
  • How many alarm clocks do you use to wake up on time?
    one clock, two alarms
  • Which musical instrument creates what you consider to be the most poignant sound?
    piano
[from The Cat, who got it here; the title quotation is from "Grand Canyon"]
