it felt like the mistake was mine, for trusting you

  • Are you a good dancer?
I am not. I have rhythm, but my arms, legs, and brain don't play well together.
  • Are you a good singer?
in the car, I'm Grammy-ready. In front of any other human being, I'm an amphibian in mammal clothing.
  • Are you a good cook?
    Yes! Someday I'll prove it.
  • Are you a good artist?
with words, with scones, with expressive looks from across the table: yes. In photographs: maybe one time out of fifty. In any other traditional visual art form: no.
  • Are you a good listener?
    that's what I've heard
  • What's your favourite clean word?
"trust" (the noun, not the verb) There are very few people that I trust, and that feeling, that certainty, is the best thing in the world.
  • What's your favourite swear word?
    "wanker"
  • What's your least favourite word?
"slacks" (the noun, not the verb) It revolts me on an elemental level, like when I need to swallow a bite of something I dislike--to be polite--but simultaneously wincing and gagging and trying not to splutter.
  • What was the last film you saw?
The Great Escape, "starring" Steve McQueen but really James Garner. A long, odd film with ending that I'd have never anticipated.
  • What football team do you support?
the Pittsburgh Steelers (though I know that this was meant in a soccer, not American football, sense)
  • Have you ever been bobbing for apples?
I have, notoriously. I have photographic evidence of a basement full of Catholic high schoolers in togas to prove it....
  • What's your most expensive piece of clothing?
probably the black velvet beaded vest. Maybe a leather coat? It was pretty close, either way.
  • What's the last thing you took a picture of?
    a wren
  • What's the last thing you drew a picture of?
probably directions. I don't draw often, at least for others' viewing.
  • Have you ever bought anything from eBay?
nope - I probably should, but I tend to forget that it's an option
  • Have you ever invented a fairly unique meal or drink?
isn't it all just reinventions of the same old thing?
How about this: when left to my own devices with food, I almost always have buns left over after I've had hot dogs or hamburgers and that sort of thing. I will then make a meal out of the leftover buns, toasted and spread with garlic butter, then re-toasted with mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Do you have any secret family recipes?
our version of hamburger gravy and mashed potatoes is the best ever
[pulled from here and divided many, many times; the title quotation is by David Levithan, from The Lover's Dictionary, and reads in its entirety: “'It was a mistake,' you said. But the cruel thing was, it felt like the mistake was mine, for trusting you.”]
