- Do you act the same when you are alone as you do when people are watching? of course not. We all wear a veil, to some extent, to keep our inner selves private.
- Why is everyone so obsessed with superheroes? "everyone." Sigh.
- What clichés do you hear over-used the most? you mean like "everyone"?
- Do you handle inconveniences well? probably so
- Are you a fan of Jackie Chan? meh
- Is a promise a big deal? when it's been made to or by me, Hell yes
- What is your place in the universe? right where I am
- Once some scientists dug up a woolly mammoth, frozen in ice. It was still completely whole, not rotted or fossilized. The scientists decided to have a dinner party. It was a very posh affair. They served roast woolly mammoth steaks, the rarest meat in all the world. So, if you were invited, would you have eaten it? no
- What are 3 things you DON'T want to know? What mammoth tastes like. How it feels to fall from a mountain (or other really high place). Or, I suppose, exactly why I'm not good enough.
- It seems to me that a lot of people don't value their lives, or life in general very highly. Why do you suppose that is? perspective (or lack of same)
- Are you like that? I try not to be, but it can be hard to realize what you've got til it's gone
- Do you celebrate the harvest moon? uh, no?
- Do you believe in out-of-body experiences? in a sense, yes
- Why does so much depend...? almost everything in human experience is relative, or can only be described relatively
- Why do so many people get jobs that they dislike? it is code, really. It's the rare person who wants to work. Pretty much everyone would like to be spending their workdays doing whatever random fun things appeal to them today. The problem is that very few of us have the means to live our lives so unencumbered. And so we take a job, sometimes whatever job is available to us, in order to bring the ends a little closer to meeting. It's rare when that condition makes for "liking" what one does.
- Do you think that in THIS world, being creative is a handicap? not a handicap, but maybe a bedevilment
- Why or why not? a lot of people - maybe most people - don't like to imagine alternatives
- Do you ever get chills or shivers during movies? What movies? sometimes, though probably not the sorts of movies that are supposed to have that response. It happens when things hit too close to home.
- Do you believe in the collective unconscious (that people are like onions..the outer layers are individualistic and the deeper you go the more similar we all are)? no, I think it's the reverse--we're more alike on the surface, and the deeper we get, the more uniquely we appear
- Do you think that most people have the qualities you look for in friends/intimate relationships or do you feel alienated? It's pretty rare to find people with "the qualities" that I seek. I do feel increasingly isolated, though the reasons for that are probably as much internal as external.
- Are you very critical...
...of others? sure - ...of yourself? yep
- Is there such a thing as expecting too much? of course. "I find my life is a lot easier the lower I keep my expectations." [Calvin & Hobbes]
- Would you rather take an hour lunch break or skip lunch and get out of work early? leave early - usually
- Do you believe that happiness is equal to...
...fakeness? in a sense, yes. In the name of "happiness" some people bend themselves into some incredibly twisted angles - ...shallowness?
- ...joy? I think of "happiness" as a long-term philosophy, and "joy" as an acute condition
- ...something good that happens? definitely not. Correlation does not imply causation.
- ...an attitude you have inside no matter what happens? theoretically
- Can you control your emotions? to some extent, that is possible
- Have you ever tried? with varying rates of success, yes. At times.
- Imagine you are 34 weeks pregnant. You are healthy and you didn't have any major problems in your pregnancy. Would you consider flying from the UK to Germany, which takes one hour, without a bad feeling that something could go wrong or the baby decides to come out earlier? you're not much of a scientist, are you?
- How long do you think it would take you to jog a mile? eternity: I do not "jog"
- Word association:
...twilight: shitty movies - ...garden: I haven't seen The Constant Gardener in too long
- ...warm: there are some new single-serving "warm brownies" on the market that look interesting
- ...stars: I kinda like chocolate stars, which is why I don't get them very often
- ...crash: one of my favorite Dave Matthews Band songs involves that word
- ...mold: jello-
- ...gold: solid
- ...green: day
- ...lush: boys' week
- Picture a triangle. Quick! What color is it? yellow
- Picture a square. Quick! What color is it? white
- Picture a circle. Quick! What color is it? red
- Why do you think you saw these shapes as these colors? it's something like synesthesia. I think all of us do it all day long, to some extent, without realizing it.
- What things are endless? homemade lasagna, grief, and the lifespan of uncomfortable socks
- Are you ever subtle? maybe too much
- How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? hopefully, lots. Like every time, for the rest of my days.
- How can you fully appreciate these moments, every moment, when it all seems limitless? nothing is really limitless
- Do you never have an ordinary day? according to my journal, that's a huge No
- Do you embrace every single thing you've never known? gah, not at all. Part of being a grown up, and an actualized human, is learning what to keep and what to reject.
- Has anyone ever mistaken you for a satanist? [This was #2666 from the original survey.] The question itself implies that I'm not one. Which is true, of course, but what's the point of asking, then? Anyway - no one has ever thought that of me, that I know of.
