3. List 6 things that you learned from the last year that might help you now and in the future:
a. I ought not to bother trying to plant peas
b. when to, and when not to, have a conversation with someone I love
c. how to sell on eBay
d. priorities
e. choosing paint colors
f. how to give myself shots without passing out
4. Why is friendship important?
truly isolated people tend to be more likely to be unhappy and exhibit unrealistic expectations
6: Is there a reason for everything that happens?
sure
7: List at least 5 things you like about yourself.
a) IQ
b) eye color
c) movie preferences
d) loyalty
e) feet
8: List 2 things you dislike about yourself. Can you improve upon these flaws?
(a) chin. I guess I could have surgery to change it....
(b) anxiety. It gets better, easier, less intense over time.
9: What gets you up in the morning?
the alarm, or (on the best days) my growling tummy because I've been asleep for so long
11: Are you an optimist? Why or why not?
in some ways, yes. Why? Because it's impossible to live without hope.
14: Is it better to be positive or pessimistic?
pessimism serves no purpose
16: What are some things you can see yourself always enjoying no matter how old you get?
books, sex, and bacon
17: Do you notice the little things? Do you appreciate people noticing the little things you do?
the little things are so often more important, clever and personal than the big, obvious, easy things. It's simple to recall a national holiday, but better to celebrate something intimate and private.
18: What is the most meaningful song to you right now? "Sorry about That" by Alkaline Trio
19: When was the last time you cried? it's been a couple of days. I was watching a show that really got to me.
20: When was the last time you got furious? I don't get truly furious with other people, just with myself. I think it was maybe this last Thursday, when I had 12 hours of things to do in a 6-hour span. Failure to plan made the day a rough blur from the start.
22: Are you a judgmental person? Do you have high standards for others?
holding people—including myself—to unreasonable standards is something I'm actively working to get over. Perfect is impossible; there are lumps in it.
23: Describe a good/sweet memory.
my parents came over earlier this week, picked up my car, and took it to the car wash. They had an extra wash on their account that was going to expire and their cars didn't need cleaning. I had just gotten back from a 750-mile trip, so my car badly needed to be washed.
And my dad did a micro-cleaning of the cockpit, too.
24: Describe a funny/silly memory.
one of my department colleagues is really talented at her job, and does wonderful work for us. She also has an uncanny knack for knowing when I really need some good vibes. She makes me laugh pretty much every day. Sometime this week (Wednesday? Thursday?) she had me laughing so hard on the phone that there were tears dropping onto my keyboard. It was probably about our ongoing departmental BINGO game....
25: When was the last time you wrote a meaningful text or letter to someone? uh, yesterday? Maybe 2 days ago. Unless they're jerks about it, I stay in regular written contact with my friends.
[from here, adapted a lot, and cherry-picked; the title quotation is attributed to Ezra Pound]
