it led to lifelong friendships. It brought me joy and comfort. It was there when I was in sorrow. It's connected me to some people who will always be dear to me.
227: What is a song that motivates you?
"Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver
228: Which of these is better: being understanding, or being genuine?
genuine
229: Is life hard? Why?
as compared to what?
230: Discuss if "going with the flow" is good or bad.
there are times when it's the best thing to do. There are others where telling your own truth, being authentic, is the only option.
231: Do you think you take proper care of your body?
my body and I are renegotiating our arrangements at this time
232: What do you think about your body? Do you love your body?
again - as compared to what? Body image is complicated for pretty much everyone, and it doesn't usually reach the level of "love."
233: When was the last time you learned something because you wanted to, not because you needed to for school or work?
today! I read parts of the Internal Revenue Code and the trust and probate statutes for two states. Yes, it was for work, but it was also flat-out fascinating. Nerdspore invasion!
235: Do you feel insecure if other people are better than you?
no, most of the time I'm not at all. We can't all be fighting over the same things - the same perfect apple at the grocery store, the same rockstar-hot boyfriend, the same accolades. We're different for good reason; try to accept it.
236: What are your standards and expectations for yourself?
no hard and fast rules, really. I'm more of a "wing it" person.
237: Discuss this statement: Other people's successes are not your failures.
kinda yeah, but kinda no. Suppose a colleague is promoted. That person's success is not your failure, right? Except when there are limited promotion opportunities. Or when that promotion is to a position that no one else was truly given a real chance for.
238: Have you ever been stressed out about grades? What advice would you give to someone stressing out about grades?
I'm sure I was at some point, but not that I recall. I was all about the learning and not about the practical results.
240: When was the last time you did something fun?
today! Besides all the cool stuff I did for work, I moved all my plants and set up the guest room.
241: Do you still look up to anyone? Why or why not?
of course. There are all sorts of people that I am drawn to for one reason or another. I like her hair; I admire his sense of humor; they wear cool clothes in attractive ways. He's widely read, she's accomplished in her field, they have a hidden talent. And on and on.
244: Why is "just get over it" bad advice?
it isn't always bad advice, but it does diminish some very real problems that need addressing. A lot of the time, though, the "problem" is just the attitude about the problem, and learning to stop obsessing about it can alleviate much of the perceived issue.
245: Do you think you are different from other people, or do you think you are ordinary? What makes you so different from others? What makes you like the others?
we are each completely unique, and that is a trait that we all share. Philosophically, then, the question is a vicious circle.
people lie because they are afraid, or arrogant, or keeping someone else's secrets. They lie because they have a callous disregard for the truth. They lie because it really does make others feel better - sometimes - or because they're an instigator, out to rouse some rabble.
We all do the same stupid shit.
247: Do you want to be different from other people? Do you want to stand out?
the different-ness is not the point, exactly...
249: Have TV shows or any other media ever affected your life?
definitely.
250: What questions do you often ask yourself?
• "is it righty-tighty, or...?"
• "will I even remember this thing that seems so tragic today, in five years?"
• "can I read one more chapter before I really, really need to get to sleep?"
[from here; the title quotation is by Margaret Mead]
