Are you petty? I can be, as much as anyone else can be. I haven't been informed that it's an especially annoying part of my personality, anyway.
Do you have any pets? I have a cat by proxy.
What’s an outfit that makes you feel sexy? Nike Dri-Fit Tempo running shorts with an old race t-shirt and Saucony running shoes
Tell us about someone who has changed your life positively. my friend Mary is an example of how I want to live my life. We met when we both worked at the library. She retired not too long before I left, and we've stayed friends through my move back home and her move to the east coast. We stay in touch on FB and Messenger and with postcards and letters. She is also one of my occasional "photo challenge" partners. She is active in art, library volunteering, and lots of travel in Maine and elsewhere. I would be thrilled to have a retirement like hers!
What is something you are passionate about? reading, taking good pictures, relaxing, and keeping my houseplants from dying
Are you a creative person? yup
What’s a common misconception about you? that because I live alone and am an introvert I'm serious and studious all the time. Very far from the truth, which is that I am silly and ridiculous, love to laugh, and like to follow my whims more than not.
Do you have any nicknames? only two, and they are private
When was the last time you cried? I can't recall. Maybe on my birthday, while reading an incredible card?
What’s your go-to happy song? "Good" by Better than Ezra makes me smile.
What’s your prized possession? I'm not in the prized possession mode these days. When I think of what I cannot live without—it's people, not things. What do I own that's irreplaceable? Maybe nothing.
Bassists or drummers? drummers, always
What’s your dream car? I've wanted a dark green 1969 MG Midget since I was too young to understand cars
If you could change your name, would you? in a heartbeat.
What is your sexuality? personal
What’s an unpopular opinion you have? that posting something timely and slightly controversial is not an invitation to be told that I'm "privileged" and that I have an obligation to actively maintain order among my friends/followers. My social media usage is not there for anyone but me. If you don't like it, don't seek it.
What are you afraid of? wasps in the porta-potty
Are you friends with any of your exes? yes ... laughing ... a handful of my FB friends happen to be former love interests
How many languages do you speak? just the one, but I'm thinking about trying to learn ASL
What’s the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you? wrote me a letter to tell me (some of) what they love about me. If you know me at all, you know that words - especially written words - mean a lot to me.
Are you a good flirt? yup
Do you and your friends have any traditions? sure! College BFF and I regularly go to a greasy-spoon sort of place for the hottest chicken sandwich and a taco salad. We generally sit at one of two tables and drink the same things every time. We have several other traditions, mostly based on the season such as: going up the river before Halloween; stopping by the shack, the crib, and (when available) the hospital before Christmas; the museum in the spring; a couple of places for Easter.... And that's in and around our usual weekend adventures!
Where have you always wanted to travel? Canada. I keep up with a guy on YouTube - J.J. McCullough - whose videos have renewed my interest in visiting and exploring that country.
What keeps you alive? food, air, water, and shelter
Favorite place you’ve traveled to? Lawrence, Kansas. Though I think of Miami, Florida as a sort of "spiritual haven", Lawrence is the one place besides the where I live now and the Flatland where I always feel at home.
What’s your dream home? smallish, with a workout room and a couple of bathrooms (one with a bigger-sized bathtub), an eat-in kitchen, and lots of windows. A walk-out basement would be nice, to have a pool table with some natural light. Attached garage.
Guilty pleasure? I do not feel guilty about pleasure.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? a photographer
Favorite food? beef
Do you share your clothes? no.
My marriage took place during the height of baggy, oversized, unisex
clothing. About 2/3 of my wardrobe was wearable (and worn) by my spouse -
and vice versa. It's not something I look back on fondly.
How’s your eyesight? correctable awful
Long hair or short hair? mine is shoulder-length. Long enough to put up, short enough to have down without going bananas keeping it out of my eyes.
[from here; the title quotation is by Dave Grohl, and reads in its entirety as follows]
“I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you fucking like something,
like it.
That’s what’s wrong with our generation: that residual punk
rock guilt, like,
'You’re not supposed to like that. That’s not fucking
cool.'
Don’t fucking think it’s not cool to like Britney Spears’ 'Toxic.'
It is cool to like Britney Spears’ 'Toxic'!
Why the fuck not?
Fuck you! That’s who I am, goddamn it!
That whole guilty pleasure thing
is full of fucking shit.”
