don't mistake activity with achievement

11. How often do you go to restaurants?
not nearly often enough! I've gotten way out of the habit of going out to dinner. I meet a friend every couple of months for lunch, typically at a Mexican place in town, and have repeatedly made and missed plans for lunch with my lawyer (for various reasons). I miss my periodic stops at the BBQ place in town, owned by a childhood friend, and regular pizza nights with my friend who's been gone over a year now.
That is, apart from the weekly breakfast with my brother and parents. They'd had those plans for a long time and I finally took them up on joining almost a year ago. Those breakfast "check-ins" have become a touchstone of good life in a year of heartbreak.
12. What are the hobbies you never found time for thus far?
    what an odd phrasing.
There are some hobbies that I would like to try but have not, yet. "Real" cooking, maybe. Pilates. "Serious" houseplant care. Regular photography. Travel.
13. What’s your take on all the superhero movies that became so popular lately?
I loathe this question. There are plenty of movies out there, and the idea that every movie fan should like whatever other movies other people like is just mathematically ridiculous. Why should I be drawn to a genre that has never caught my interest before? I'm not a superhero book fan, nor did I watch those cartoons as a kid. I've never drawn the characters when I was into art. I don't wear the clothes.
500,000 to 800,000 movies total in the world
I think the movies are fine, in themselves. Other people really like them. Entertainment is incredibly important in having a good, balanced, positive life. I'm glad that others are happy with the superhero experience. I just don't have a drive to share that.
14. If you could magically learn one language, which one would you pick?
    cat
15. What’s a movie that everyone seems to love which is just "whatever" for you?
there are too many to count. If anyone is curious about my taste in film, use the Tags cloud on the blog's right sidebar, find Watch It, and check out my movie reviews.
16. Do you think video game tournaments stand any chance of becoming as popular as, say, football?
absolutely not. I think that sports popularity rests in part by fans' hidden (or not so hidden) desire to play, along with their experiences having tried it when they were younger. Though video games are become more popular and lucrative, I just can't imagine that becoming truly mainstream.
17. Are you more of a doer or a thinker?
it depends. In plenty of areas, I do without thinking and sort out the consequences later. In other ways, though, I overthink until I'm frozen by indecision.
18. Generally speaking, hot or cold beverages?
cool. The fillings in my teeth make either extreme uncomfortable. Apart from hot tea now and then, most of what I choose is on the cool side.
19. Do you ever speak in movie quotes?
I try not to actually talk in quotes, because it can be so confusing and inadvertently obnoxious to someone who's out of the loop. I used to date someone who resorted to movie quotes when he was out of his element - which was distressingly often - and then would laugh or sneer at anyone who could not immediately place the quote. What's the point of talking if you deliberately make it impossible to be understood?
20. iPhone or Android?
I mostly have Apple stuff, but it's just electronics, not a religion
