Book Review (yes, I've finally finished this)

Title: The First Four Books of Poems
Author: Louise Glück

Why Did I Read It?: I’ve wanted to read her work since I caught a tiny piece of it in what I could swear was an Elinor Lipman book but I now can’t find the reference. Regardless, it was the first 3 lines of “The Reproach” from Triumph of Achilles:
You have betrayed me, Eros
You have sent me
my true love.

Review: Perfection. This is the poetry of my thirties, or perhaps of my adulthood, in the same way that Edna St. Vincent Millay was the poetry of my teens and twenties. It is generally grave, but at times almost luminous with possibility. Does that make sense? I’m not a poetry critic so it’s difficult for me to put the right words to what it is that I loved about this work. Although I could certainly quote several individual poems that I found particularly striking or that I believe are representative of her style, I think I’ll try to stay out of that role. Instead, I’ll just hope that others will read her work and find something in it for themselves, too.

Rating: 10/10. If you've ever given any thought to reading poetry, please try this.
