tho your heart is breaking

Choosing to be happy, I've been scribbling things that contribute to that state:
  • lying on my back, looking up at the Northern Lights
  • Anglos with inexplicably ethnic names
  • small, crunchy dill pickles
  • novels in which prissy girls eventually get their comeuppance
  • the word 'comeuppance'
  • unexpected, inexpensive gifts
  • long drives to nowhere--especially in congenial company
  • "when a plan comes together"
  • desserts involving raspberries and/or peaches
  • non-condescending books in the [Dewey] 150s
  • silver jewelry
  • turkey and gravy
  • men who are both strong and gentle
  • heavy rain during the day with no thunder, lightning or wind
  • Australian rock music
  • polite very young children
  • the sound of a good pen on good paper
  • when the one item that you stop at the grocery store to get happens to be on sale
  • classical cello, especially on lazy Sunday mornings
  • just a few more...
    • ...minutes
    • ...paragraphs
    • ...kisse
  • shampoo
  • watching someone do what they love and are good at
  • 'best' lists
  • people who are both clever and confident
  • phone numbers with repeating digits
  • odd greeting cards, especially birthday cards for non-birthday occasions
  • serving food out of things shaped like animals
  • people who are unstingy with memories
  • graph paper, colored pencils, and a couple of hours to kill
  • blueberry pancakes with maple syrup
  • when guests make themselves at home to food and drinks
  • Dazed and Confused
  • inside jokes
  • nibblers (i.e. hot snacks)
  • song lyrics with personal meaning
  • those who are not intimidated by my particular brand of effusiveness
  • when friends accept recommendations of books, movies, music, etc. with an open mind
  • open-mindedness, generally
  • people whose lives have meaning without accompanying smugness or do-gooder-ism
  • real mail after days (or weeks) of bills and catalogs
  • the unreal blue sky over Santa Fe, New Mexico
  • high-tech bubble wrap
  • mix CDs
  • the unreal green/blue water of the Atlantic off of South Beach (Miami, Florida)
  • and thee.
Have I missed anything?
