wonder what's up with all the guinea pigs in my life lately?

I'm at work, skimming a book called The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment (by A.J. Jacobs). Go ahead: click over to Amazon and read the description. I'll wait.
Thanks. So, the section that I read (yup, every word, beginning to end) was about the married and male A.J. acting as 'Cyrano' for a female friend who was online dating. There are funny, snarky anecdotes and some sweet bits that make you think. But overall, I'm left with two questions. First, isn't it rather horrible to contemplate dating someone based on "courting" that someone else has done for you? And second, isn't there some romantic and/or emotional connection implied there, between the "courting" couple, that would actually be made between the suitor and A.J. himself, the lovely Michelle's stand-in? No doubt I'd have done better to have stayed out of the choosing a mate portion of the game (at any point), but I'm not sure that I would ever trade the part where you actually make the decision (such as it is) to form the attachment.
Still, it's making me think. Not such a bad thing for the middle of a Friday afternoon.
