our only security is our ability to change

Progress!
Kitchen (from dining room)
Kitchen (from dining room)
Living room (note the CD rack on the left--the two African violets on top were a gift from The Decorator. Once I've re-potted them, they'll live in the kitchen window and a couple of the kitchen window plants will move to the ledge of the window on the stairs [see below].)
Half-bath, & steps to basement (note the little part of the maple-topped cabinet at right--that its final destination).
Living room (the general layout is right, with the couch, coffee table, TV and desk where they belong. The 5 extra maple bookcases, the closet organizer, and the wicker trunk that is half-hidden under the dining room table [in a previous photo] are still waiting to go upstairs--as are 8 more boxes of books; I've taken the rest up this weekend.)
Hats (on the "balcony" ledge of the 2nd floor. It seemed like a productive use of space that would otherwise be wasted - and for a notoriously difficult to store/display collection.)
2nd bedroom
Walk-in closet (from 2nd bedroom)
Window ledge on stairs to 2nd floor - it will eventually be filled with plants, etc.

  1. making some real progress hon, not sure about all the hats on the ledge though but, all in all it is coming together and looking good... having all the plants will be nice and they should do well too with all the light.

as for the bookcases, I appreciate the kind offer and I would really like to but, sadly I think you will have them long placed and filled before I had a chance to help ;)

  2. You don't like the hats on the ledge? It seemed like the best thing to keep up there, and the best place to keep them - if they fall they won't break or kill anyone, and it's a use of otherwise wasted space - but I'm open to suggestions. I'm definitely going to get more plants around. Just need to get organized/motivated enough on a weekend day. :)

Don't underestimate my desire for your help, or overestimate my ability/desire to get those bookcases moved on my own! In other words, the option remains open....

  3. I think were it me, I would perhaps use some out of the way wall space to hang the hats. Personally, I really do not see the ledge so much as wasted space per se, and would certainly not advocate putting anything there that could kill or maim were it to fall but, perhaps left 'au naturel' would be okay too ;)

I always appreciate open options ;)

Underestimation can of course be problematic at times for all of us but, I would think it would be hard though in practice to overestimate your ability/desire in most anything in which you were motivated to your desired outcome ;)
