Is a blue grosgrain ribbon on a pale purple beaver felt fedora
more romantic than that ribbon tied loose about the throat?
Is Herr Professor adjusting his glasses
more exciting than the Cossack taking off his boots?
No; and no.
Something could be said for the putting on
of glasses and boots and hats--
But what? Enthusiasts for such can only be those who prefer
enlightenment, clear sight, the civilized pleasures of garb and more garb.
Such as they, who inhabit an age of reason,
may do just as well with an automated fuck;
but Oh not I.
[April Bernard, 'Manners', from Romanticism]
