we are our own devils; we drive ourselves out of our Edens

June 15: indigence
I'm not truly living in indigence but there are times when I seem to come pretty close.

  • Ocean or pool? river, please
  • Fridays or Ruby Tuesdays? Applebees. But Fridays is all right, too, if I'm having an "illicit" cocktail with The Cat after wandering the mall, prehaps....
  • Did you want to go to college? very much. If I could've started a couple of years earlier, I'd have been thrilled!
  • What did you do last time at a mall? probably walked a lot and shopped a little. I'm assuming it was with The Cat, and that's our usual M.O. Plus stopping for lunch (oh, and tea and a muffin for me in the morning, because I'm a grazer) and trying to avoid the kiosk shills.
  • Which close friend have you known the longest? Jennifer and I have been friends since we were five
  • Why do you like the music you do? when a former friend who had a degree in art history took her new boyfriend (who was a scientist) to the art museum, she very patiently explained the artists behind each of the works they were seeing, and the major schools of art, and what sorts of mediums they used, and brushstrokes.... Finally, he stopped before one painting and smiled, looking at it from various angles in a manner that seemed both possessive and pleased. She said, "You obviously like it. Can you tell me why?"
    "I like the colors."
  • Do you read much? every day

June 16: Sturm und Drang
There's been a bit more Sturm und Drang going around lately; one of my colleagues suggests that some astrological complications are to blame but I think it's the crazy heat.

  • Favorite country? [inadequate means for comparison]
  • What is something you wish you were better at? not caring.
  • What’s your favorite album/CD? every day, it's a different mix CD. Today it's a new one called "It was just a phase." Ask me again tomorrow.
  • What's a good dinner order? strange question. I haven't had breakfast for dinner lately, so I guess I'd go for that.
  • Planes or boats? planes
  • One rumor that’s been spread about you: others' failure to follow through with what they've promised sets me off more than anything else
  • Who is your newest friend? Fiona!

June 17: abulia
Mumbler's been diagnosed with chronic abulia, and it seems to be contagious.

  • Have you ever sat on a rooftop? yep. Spent a notorious evening on my old boyfriend's apartment rooftop, entertaining a couple of his friends in the middle of their cross-country (I mean, ALL the way across the country, from Rhode Island to San Diego) bike trip. Multiple pounds of Cincinnati spaghetti, a full jug of Gallo, and four pints of Ben & Jerry's later, we were drunk enough to head inside, and not so drunk that we had trouble getting there. It was a good night.
  • Was your last text useful? Sort of yes, sort of no: "LOL friendships are different. Women come and go."
  • Favorite soda? Coke, please!
  • Do you like yourself? uh, sure?
  • The worst weather: Hot or cold? yes. Something temperate would be better.
  • Do you play an instrument? this gets my vote for the most annoyingly repetitive meme question of all (and if you want the real answer, search it on the sidebar)
  • What’s your favorite action movie? Cradle 2 the Grave with Jet Li and DMX. Ooh, or maybe War with Jet Li and Jason Statham. Or....

June 18: coruscate
Fluffy is my most sparkly friend; she seems to coruscate even in the most somber attire.

  • Have (or are) you ever been involved someone much older than you? (another grammatical nightmare.)
I have been, yes. It's not my first urge, but sometimes it works.
  • Do you believe in lust at first sight? yep
  • Favorite type of venomous snake? lawyers, of course
  • Do you drink alcohol? now and again
  • If you wanted to talk to someone who'd lift your spirits, who'd you call? there are a lot of unspoken "if"s in that question. Depending on what deflated them in the first place, there are a variety of people whose particular personalities might boost my mood. I'm not going to choose just one.
  • What do you do to feel sexy? To quote the torturing Brazilian: "roll your shoulders back. To breathe air. To feel...sexy!"
  • Do you like to learn? “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” [Earl Weaver]
  • Have you ever been hit on by someone who really overestimated their attractiveness? uh, yeah. Sad that the last couple of examples of this in my life were the reverse. *outch*
  • Where did you last go on vacation? my last real vacation was to Dallas.
    Holy. Crap.
  • Dallas (as in J.R. & Bobby) returns this week. What film or TV series would you loved to be resurrected? (these coincidences are becoming downright creepy--I'm not reading ahead!)
This ranks in the top ten of my least favorite repetitive meme questions, so I'll throw out a curve:
    Circus of the Stars.

June 19: ineffable
Nerds present an ineffable allure to me.

  • Explain your karma beliefs. (I'm starting to think that these questions were written not by a human but by a random meme question-generator.)
I believe in the sort of common-sensical notion that what goes around comes around. If you're basically a good person, then basic goodness works its way back to you. Eventually, not pound-for-pound.
  • When do you think that you have a hard life? every morning when I haul my ass out of bed, and every evening as I'm walking out the door
  • Favorite comic strip? Calvin and Hobbes or Mutts
  • Have you ever broken a heart? yes, and I hate that
  • Should pot be legalized? yep
  • Have you ever gone skinny dipping with someone that you shouldn't have? no, he/it was/we were fine
  • What do you do when you're down? stay there. Nothing wrong with down.
  • Last time you were really angry? somewhere around 2:PM
  • What is your favorite flavor in general? whole-bean vanilla
[from the usual source--and already grabbed by BGM at Sledding with Rosebud!; the title quotation is by Goethe]

  1. How the HELL did I not think of lawyers?? :-)

Have I met Fluffy? You do know that there's a dog in the Potterverse named Fluffy, right? lol

    1. I was pretty proud of the 'lawyers' answer.

You have indeed met Fluffy. Since she'd rather read porn than HP, though, the nickname's clearly from elsewhere!

    2. the lawyer answer was unexpected but, quite an adept answer as well ;)

... if Fluffy is a nickname, there is a similar term that relates to her preferred reading medium... ;))
