the world's continual breathing is what we hear and call silence

  • What is a most pleasant sound to wake up hearing?
immediately upon waking up? Absolutely nothing. I need to ease into the day, definitely, and the noisier it is (even if the sounds are objectively "pleasant"), the grumpier I'll be. Hell of a way to start the day.
  • What is a most pleasant sound to fall asleep hearing?
nothing. I'm a fan of complete and total silence. Barring that (since I, harrumph, seem required to live in society), 'natural' noises are good: wind. Leaves. Water. Even traffic, within reason.
  • What's a more annoying sound: car alarms or leaf-blowers?
leaf-blowers. I think they're ridiculous, lazy, and horrible. A sure sign of the apocalypse. Car alarms at least serve some purpose, although they're rarely necessary around these parts (nor used properly).
  • What's a sound most people seem to like but you hate?
    children shrieking in public
  • What's a sound most people seem to hate but you like?
let's just say, my musical taste is, in some ways, not for everyone

[from The Cat, who got it here; the title quotation is by Clarice Lispector, from The Passion According to G.H.]
