Why was I chosen? / Such questions cannot be answered

Note: the first several questions in this section were about Lord of the Rings, a series about which I know nothing. I haven't read them, haven't watched them, don't care about them, world without end. So I've picked out the questions that are of general interest, will answer those, and go on with the rest.
  1. Isn't love the highest thing that there is? highest, best, most enduring
  2. What have you risked your life for? love, family, to prove a point. I'm stubborn as hell.
  3. What would you? just today I swore that I will take hurt for myself before I will allow someone else (a specific someone else) to be hurt. Is that what you mean?
  4. How can we go on when the evil in this world is so powerful? that is such a trite question. What is the alternative?
  5. How can we go on when so many awful things have happened? again, what is the alternative? Just to stop? To give up, give in, and not try at all?
  6. What is it that makes our Earth worth saving? love, I guess
  7. Whose responsibility is it to save our world? yours
  8. Why do most people associate being spiritual or connected to the world as being a hippy? hippies do it better
  9. Why is passion and honest emotion equated with Hallmark cards? I don't think that it is. I think that artificial emotion and canned expression of "feelings" is equated with Hallmark cards. Unfairly, but still.
  10. What words set off alarms in your brain (for me it's anarchy, pagan, etc.)? fidelity, obligation, and assumption
  11. Are you dancin' in the dark? that's maybe the only way I'm dancin'
  12. Name 2 things you have never done in public: take off my clothes, or play pretty much any sports
  13. If you had to choose out of what you just named, which one WOULD you do in public? sports
  14. Challenge yourself. Do whatever it is in public. Why not? because I'm fine exercising privately
  15. What are you so terrified of? I'm terrified of lots of things. My life, and my choices, are not binary "terrified or anything."
  16. Is Hell REALLY other people? yep
  17. Or would it be more hellish to live totally without other people? uh, no
  18. Legos or Lincoln Logs? Lincoln Logs are the bomb
  19. What books have you read more than once? this makes me laugh. It might be easier, at this point, to name the books that I haven't felt compelled to read more than once!
  20. Do you get different things out of reading a book a second time a year or more after reading it the first time? absolutely
  21. Is it because you are a different person after time passes? sometimes
  22. The person who goes to ____ is not the same person who comes back. Fill in the blank with anything you think fits. California
  23. Quick! Empty your brain here! loving isn't always easy (in fact it rarely is) but it's always right
  24. What's the best movie soundtrack? Singles, from the 1992 movie
  25. Tissues with or without aloe? without. My sensitive beak breaks out from the ones with lotion.
  26. Are you on any medication? uh, yeah
  27. Does any part of your own body disgust you? yep. My nose has been bleeding on and off all afternoon. Gross!
  28. If yes, isn't that odd? What could have caused that feeling of disgust with your own body? blood? Coming from my nose?
  29. Want some popcorn? yep
  30. What if Atlas shrugged? dunno. Haven't read it.
  31. Who has led the most interesting life? I am prehaps excessively fascinated with a certain person, but his life seems to have sprung from literature. Grunge lit, maybe, and a cautionary tale, but compulsively readable nonetheless.
  32. What movies are coming out next year that you are looking forward to? meh. I'd kind of like to see The Incredibles 2, and I was reading an article about a new Ethan Hawke film (First Reformed) last night. But most of my movies come from the $5 (or less) bin or from the public library, in an endless stream of preview recommendations from the weirdo movies that I love.
  33. If someone is half man and half dog is he his own best friend? every man is his own best friend, in a manner of speaking
  34. Paper or plastic? depends on what's in low supply in the cupboard
  35. Why did things make sense in childhood, but they don't now? everything was simpler then. Knowledge and hormones, I think, ruin everything.
  36. Is it crazy time? nope, it's 7:34
[From the 5000-question meme; this is the first half of the fortieth part (questions 3801-3850). The title quotation is from Lord of the Rings. I guess.]
