this is the most simple and basic component of life: our struggles determine our successes

As part of my recent soul-searching, I have gone through an exercise intended to identify and internalize what is positive and negative in my life. I am making two lists. The first is titled "What Makes Me Flourish":  things that I have or do, or that simply exist, or that others do, that make my life better. The other is the opposite. It is called "What Makes Me Low," and is made up of aspects of me and my life that do not have such a good effect.

Beyond the lists themselves, the most fascinating part of this activity for me has been the results of soliciting others' opinions and input. It can be difficult to ask for help, particularly when it involves identifying negative or difficult parts of one's personality or worldview. The results certainly were mixed. Some people obviously put a lot of consideration into responding. Others did not participate.

What follows are the two lists - which will make this an unusually lengthy post! I am going to intersperse them to make it less whiny and overwhelming. All the "low" stuff will be in a sans serif font and orange, and the "Flourish" in the regular font and purple. The items on each list are not in any particular order. Please recall that it is a work in progress, and a personal, psychological exercise in attempt to sort out my own inner puzzles. This is not about anyone, except for me.
