One of these is a major spoiler. If you haven't seen it, don't read it—you have been warned!
Catch .44 (2011) - "Three women are sent to intercept a major drug deal at a diner at 3:00 AM and get the money. Simple, save for Murphy's Law: anything that can go wrong will go wrong."
Source: streamed on Amazon Prime

notable quote: "'What're you even talking about? I think you're confusing yourself.'
'No, no. I think it's just too complicated for you to understand.'
'No, it's not at all. I get what you're saying—I just don't agree with you."
story: basic crime story gone FUBAR
visuals: gross, tacky and weird. It looks kind of like a very well-fed film student might have put this together over a long holiday weekend when his folks were away.
costumes, hair & makeup: nothing to brag about
acting: Malin Åkerman (Tes) is terrible - a poor man's Cameron Diaz, and Diaz is plenty terrible enough already. The only actress worth a damn in this film is Nikki Reed (Kara), and her character bought it far too early. Forest Whitaker (Ronny) is the highlight, but even that is not saying much in this shitshow.

intangibles: this movie sucks. It's the bastard child of Pulp Fiction, some girl-power flick, and public access TV.

Apache (1954) - "Refusing to let himself be resettled on a Florida reservation, Massai—an Apache warrior—escapes his captors and returns to his homeland to become a peaceful farmer."

notable quote: "Are you afraid of the turtle? Then put your knife away."
visuals: stark, dramatic setting
costumes, hair & makeup: good God. I've seen better hair and makeup in high school productions.
acting: it is difficult to look at a film like this without seeing it through the lens of modern thinking. Why, of all people, was Burt Lancaster chosen to play Massai? He was 6 feet tall and had bright blue eyes. His acting, now, seems stereotyped and stilted—because Native Americans were actually people, not wooden figures as they are played in this movie.

intangibles: soooooo outdated and awful. There are some good, old movies that include or are specifically about Native American storylines. This is NOT one of them.

Delivering Milo (2001) - "A guardian angel has 24 hours to convince a soul that life on Earth is worth the effort."

IMDB: 5.8/10 - Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: N/A% Audience: 44%
story: baby souls are lined up, ready to be born. One of them - Milo (Yelchin) - is uneasy about making the transition. The Big Guy decides to send him on a field trip down to Earth to check out the scene, guided by an angel who's been consigned to purgatory. They go to New York and wander about. The angel gets in all sorts of trouble and doesn't do a great job of convincing Milo to commit to being born. He finally decides to do it when he meets a mutual friend.
costumes, hair & makeup: pretty limited
acting: Bridget Fonda (Elizabeth) is lovely

intangibles: I wanted to like this far more than I did. Yelchin was a cute little urchin, and Fonda was a joy to watch. Overall, though, this movie was weak.

Emma (1996) - "While matchmaking for friends and neighbors, a young 19th Century Englishwoman nearly misses her own chance at love."

notable quote: "Try not to kill my dogs."
story: it's Jane Austen. Boy meets girl, both misbehave (one more than the other), they reconcile.
visuals: sumptuous and lovely
costumes, hair & makeup: great hair. Fairly simple but pretty dresses. Nice mens' clothes.
acting: Jeremy Northam (Mr. Knightley) is dashing, and Alan Cumming is delightful and creepy as the weasely Mr. Elton.

story: clever enough in the research and writing, this mess could never happen in the real world. Willing to accept that movies are not the real world, it's not bad.
visuals: courtrooms and barrooms
costumes, hair & makeup: business attire straight out of the late 80s (not a compliment)
acting: Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Maggie Ward) is talented but often wound a notch or two more tightly than appeals to me. Still, that brittleness serves to give her character a necessary fragility. Gene Hackman's Jedediah Tucker Ward is a blustery, charismatic genius with scant emotional intelligence. Laurence Fishburne is quietly solid as attorney Nick Holbrook.
