I'm working in circles with movies lately, mostly watching things I've seen before. It's an interesting process, seeing some things about myself in relation to what I've done before. ...
Safe (2012) - "Mei, a young girl whose memory holds a priceless numerical code, finds herself pursued by the Triads, the Russian mob, and corrupt NYC cops. Coming to her aid is an ex-cage fighter whose life was destroyed by the gangsters on Mei's trail."

notable quote: "I never know what to say at these moments. ... The ones before I kill somebody."
story: classic Statham nonsense, requiring massive loads of imagination to find the least bit plausible, with so many neat coincidences and so much perfect timing. Still, it's like a delicious pizza burger with hot, crispy french fries when you're hungover - a terrible-for-you but delectable deviation from the normal, healthy diet.
visuals: look at that DVD cover and you'll have a fairly good idea what you're in for
acting: meh

'You couldn't nail me with roses and a trip to Vegas.'"
story: loosely based on the true story of George Reeves' death
visuals: beautifully lit and filmed
costumes, hair & makeup: awesome vintage costumes
acting: Diane Lane (Toni Mannix) is wonderful, as always. Her relationship with Bob Hoskins (Eddie Mannix) is sublime and heartbreaking.

notable quote: "Fasten your seatbelts - it's going to be a bumpy night!"
visuals: beautifully shot in B&W
costumes, hair & makeup: perfect for the era
acting: this is a witty, complicated, and deeply disturbing film, which has everything to do with the cast and their skills. Bette Davis (Margo Channing) is the ideal heroine, salty and a little hard to like. Celeste Holm (Karen Richards) is also terrific as the smarter-than-she-looks best friend.
