I'd like to try Porky Pig

This is a win some/lose some grouping.

There Will Be Blood
There Will be Blood
(2007) - "A story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business."

IMDB: 8.2/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: 91% Audience: 86%
notable quote: "Did you think your song and dance and your superstition would help you, Eli? I am the Third Revelation! I am who the Lord has chosen!"
story: complicated
visuals: brilliant
costumes, hair & makeup: excellent
acting: Daniel Day-Lewis (Daniel Plainview) is on a completely different level. He has talent that others can only imagine.
intangibles: this is a profound, crazy, depressing and beautiful movie
Academy Award winner:
• Best Actor—Day-Lewis
• Best Cinematography
Academy Award nominee:
• Best Picture
• Best Director—Paul Thomas Anderson
• Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay—Anderson
• Best Film Editing

The Age of Adaline
The Age of Adaline
(2015) - "A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into."
Source: I owned the DVD
I watched it because: it is the favorite movie of an old friend who was celebrating a birthday
IMDB: 7.2/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: 54% Audience: 67%
notable quote: "Don't get sloppy. It's the little things that trip you up."
story: it's a fairytale
visuals: detailed, and so well done
costumes, hair & makeup: utterly gorgeous
acting: Blake Lively (Adaline Bowman) and Harrison Ford (William Jones) are great
intangibles: I don't love the story, but I like the movie
overall: equivocally recommended

Private Buckaroo
Private Buckaroo
(1942) - "A Universal Army enlistment promotion, produced as a musical showcase for Harry James, the Andrews Sisters, Joe E. Lewis, and Donald O'Connor & Peggy Ryan. The film's thin plot has James drafted, and joining him is the band's lead vocalist Lon Prentice (Dick Foran), who doesn't believe that Army training and regulations are necessary for anyone of his skill and fame. Shemp Howard steals the film whenever James and the Andrewses aren't performing. As Sgt. Snavely, he's effectively teamed with Mary Wickes as his shrewish fiancée, trying desperately to keep her away from the attentions of nightclub comic and USO performer Lancelot Pringle McBiff (Joe E. Lewis). Shemp also has the opportunity to clown onstage with the Andrews Sisters during a musical finale, as they perform 'Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree'. Arguably, Shemp's best solo feature film credit."
Source: it's part of my Silver Screen Musicals box set
I watched it because: I wanted something playing while I dealt with a boring task
IMDB: 5.9/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: N/A% Audience: 27%
story: not really a story
intangibles: it's a blur of unconnected acts, thinly glommed into a propaganda film that is not very enjoyable
overall: not recommended

The Corruptor
The Corruptor
(1999) - "With aid from a New York City policeman, a top immigrant cop tries to stop drug trafficking and corruption by immigrant Chinese Triads, but things get complicated when the Triads try to bribe the policeman."
Source: it's part of my Mark Wahlberg box set
I watched it because:
IMDB: 6.1/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: 48% Audience: 43%
notable quote: "'What do you mean, you don't like plums?'
    'I like peaches.'
'Peaches is shit. Haven't you ever heard the song Sinatra sang? "Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum." Not a peach, a plum.'
'I don't care if he pulled a raisin out of Sammy Davis' eye socket—I prefer peaches.'"
story: dumb and trite
visuals: dark and slick
costumes, hair & makeup: dark and leathery
acting: awful. Chow-Yun Fat eats the scenery, and Mark Wahlberg looks like a teen in his first play.
intangibles: terrible movie
overall: not recommended

Easy Rider
Easy Rider
(1969) - "Two bikers head from L.A. to New Orleans through the open country and desert lands, and along the way they meet a man who bridges a counter-culture gap of which they had been unaware."

100 Years ... 100 Movies (10th anniversary list 2007) #84
notable quote: "I think I'll order kidneys, 'cause I left mine out there on the road somewhere."
story: wackadoodle
visuals: sweeping and stirring
costumes, hair & makeup: just right for the period
acting: Jack Nicholson (George Hanson) is wonderful

Academy Award nominee:
• Best Supporting Actor—Nicholson
• Best Writing, Story and Screenplay Based on Material Not Previously Published or Produced—Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Terry Southern
overall: recommended only because it's a cultural requirement
