I was very angry with him

Taking a walk through history, seeing some things I've seen before, getting a new perspective.

Pretty Woman (1990)
Pretty Woman
(1990) - "In this modern update on Cinderella, a prostitute and a wealthy businessman fall hard for one another, forming an unlikely pair. While on a business trip in L.A., Edward (Richard Gere), who makes a living buying and breaking up companies, picks up a hooker, Vivian (Julia Roberts), on a lark. After Edward hires Vivian to stay with him for the weekend, the two get closer, only to discover there are significant hurdles to overcome as they try to bridge the gap between their very different worlds."

I watched it because: I haven't seen it in many years
IMDB: 7.1/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: 65% Audience: 68%
my IMDB: 8/10
AFI: 100 Years ... 100 Passions (2002) #21
notable quote: "The bad stuff is easier to believe. You ever notice that?"
MPAA rating: R
directed by: Garry Marshall
my notes: it's stood up surprisingly well. Roberts' subsequent career gives context to her performance as classier-than-she-appeared, fish-out-of-water Vivian. Gere plays Edward straight up, vulnerable and decent.
Academy Award nominee: Best Actress—Roberts
overall:  recommended

Dazed and Confused (1993)
Dazed and Confused
(1993) - "This coming-of-age film follows the mayhem of group of rowdy teenagers in Austin, Texas, celebrating the last day of high school in 1976. The graduating class heads for a popular pool hall and joins an impromptu keg party, however star football player Randall "Pink" Floyd (Jason London) has promised to focus on the championship game and abstain from partying. Meanwhile, the incoming freshmen try to avoid being hazed by the seniors, most notably the sadistic bully Fred O'Bannion (Ben Affleck)."

I watched it because: it was mutually agreeable to the person I was with
IMDB: 7.6/10  -  Rotten Tomatoes: Tomatometer: 92% Audience: 90%
my IMDB: 9/10
notable quote: "It's like our sergeant told us before one trip into the jungle. Men! Fifty of you are leaving on a mission. Twenty-five of ya ain't coming back."
MPAA rating: R
directed by: Richard Linklater
my notes: there is a special place in my heart for this movie, which is silly, funny, and winsome. My high school experience was by no means this extreme, but there are aspects of the film that resonate: shallow cliques; general dissatisfaction with what is a pretty easy life; preoccupation with sex and drinking; and wholesale terror of what's coming in adulthood

A Perfect World

Lowther), and flee across Texas. As they travel together, Butch and Phillip discover common bonds and suffer the abuses of the outside 'perfect world'. In pursuit is Texas Ranger 'Red' Garnett (Clint Eastwood) and Criminologist Sally Gerber (Laura Dern)."

cape fear (1991)
Cape Fear
(1991) - "When attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) knowingly withholds evidence that would acquit violent sex offender Max Cady (Robert De Niro) of rape charges, Max spends 14 years in prison. But after Max's release, knowing about Sam's deceit, he devotes his life to stalking and destroying the Bowden family. When practical attempts to stop Max fail, Sam realizes that he must act outside the law to protect his wife and daughter in Martin Scorsese's remake of the classic 1962 thriller."

my IMDB: 5/10
AFI: 100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains (2003) Villain #28
notable quote: "Well, gee golly gosh. I sure am sorry I offended you, you white trash piece of shit."
MPAA rating: R
directed by: Scorsese
my notes: overwhelming and heavily acted. Nick Nolte is unbelievable as a lawyer. Juliette Lewis is obviously creepy. Jessica Lange and De Niro make the best of it, but it's a slog.
Academy Award nominee:
• Best Actor—De Niro
• Best Supporting Actress—Lewis
