more snipets

~ Lunch today = Coke + donuts from Dunkin' Donuts, a la Ed. I LOVE ED!
~ There's a church between my apartment and my place of employment. (Actually there are about 5, but this one in particular....) It has one of those lighted sign-boards out front. The sign was recently changed to read:
GOD GIVES DOPE
When I saw it for the first time, I laughed so hard I nearly drove into the sanctuary. Then I realized that the last word is "hope."
~ On the way to the meeting this morning I was listening to Staind, Chapter V. The song "Everything Changes" was on. (See lyrics here.) It was on loud. I was singing along. I was driving on G-Road, near the ironically-named "Shangri-La", about 3 miles from C V Road. All of a sudden, out of nowhere: a grackle [Quiscalus quiscula]. I didn't mention--it was really windy. The bird was flying straight toward me, and it could not get out of my way because it was in one of those wind things that keeps birds going in one direction regardless of how hard they fly. And there was nowhere for me to go, since the road there is narrow and my options were ditch, oncoming traffic, or...smoosh. So, I smooshed him. With my windshield. I heard it all (despite the volume on the CD player), and even felt some of it through the steering wheel.
Ick. Poor stupid little bastard. At least it was over quickly (at 70 mph, and that's only on my end!).
~ So I turned onto C V Road and took it a little easier than I had been. Between I Road and W Road, I was in a little gang of 6 cars going 65 mph (in a 55 mph zone). It is a narrow road with a surprising amount of dips and curves given that this is the flat-land. All of a sudden, my rear-view mirror was filled with the front end of a white PT Cruiser. She had to have been going 90 when she pulled up on me, because we were on the flat there and she came out of nowhere. And then...she passed me. In a No Passing zone. Only, she didn't just pass me: she passed all of us. All 6 of us. In a No Passing zone. I'm clearly not telepathic because no state trooper showed up to beat the living shit out of her at that point!
~ Best quote from the meeting: "We've just gone back to Hell."
~ Second best quote from the meeting: "panty-burners", a descriptor used to refer to romance novels.
~ For those "in the know"--The Paperback Issue reared its ugly head yet again. Guess which director was in attendance?!

Time for another donut.
