I read the book of Job last night--I don't think God comes out well in it.

August 3: piebald
The sweetest of the kittens was piebald, with a white rim around her little black nose.

I thought that if I were broken enough
I would see the light
like at the end of a small tube, but approachable.

I thought chickens laid eggs
for a purpose.

For the reason expected, a form occurred more
blatant and impossible

to stop me.

[Robert Creeley, 'The Revelation', from Selected Poems, 1945-2005. The title quotation is by Virginia Woolf.]
