no party is any fun unless seasoned with folly

August 30: trichologist
I'm glad that Meggan doesn't refer to herself as a trichologist, because I couldn't deal with having my hair cut by anyone that pretentious.
August 31: short shrift
I've given my toenails short shrift this summer, since The Sandal Ban has been in place.
September 1: bereft
In the middle of the otherwise happy gathering, she said something that made me realize that I felt exactly the same way. We had a moment of complete understanding--we were both utterly bereft--and it was as if we had just truly met, for the first time.

Birthday week is over. It was good--fun, rewarding, relaxing, funny, a little vague--and I have to admit that I'm glad to be seeing it end. There was a big, fancy dinner at home. There was a long, casual dinner at home (with a new friend). There was a ridiculously full day at work, involving visitors and greetings, presents and calls, postings & messages, homemade muffins in two flavors, plus chocolate maple bacon cupcakes. There was what may be the best gift ever, some super-sly detective work (which has quite grown its own head of steam, but remains too good to give back). There was a night out at the bar (which was supposed to be one drink) with the supermodel's ex-stepfather and our mutual friends. (As much as I enjoy a good steak now and then, I'm still a cheap date at heart. Sigh!) And last night, there was dinner with the girls. I realized midway through the meal that each of us holds an advanced degree, yet we were very comfortably passing our drinks around the table for shared tastes, and double-dipping from four plates of appetizers. Good friends are a beautiful thing. After dinner, we split out to a different bar, where we enjoyed some of the loudest (and sporadically worst) jukebox music ever, and never-ending glasses of beer.
Today, I didn't move much off the couch. So tired!
