the secret of happiness is to find a congenial monotony

grimalkin
It's sometimes wistfully appealing to think about living with someone else again--perhaps a grimalkin who's as finicky about company as I am.
vogue
I've developed some personal style, but it's nothing even approaching vogue or au courant.
Pickwickian
[Seriously.]
We did make real contact today, but it was regrettably brief and Pickwickian.

  1. What is your favorite genre to read?
I go through phases of reading different things. I've just read about 15 romance novels in a row, but this weekend will be devoted to plowing through the poetry books that I've had checked out for a couple of weeks already. After that, I've my heart set on sneaking back into some epic fantasy. Before the romance, it was almost all mystery for a couple of months.
It's funny, though: I don't really think of myself as a genre reader. I usually just read straight-up fiction.
  2. How often do you read for pleasure?
    every. single. day.
  3. Do you ever read books in your least favorite genre?
no--life is too short to read anything that's not a complete joy
  4. Do you snack when you read?
sometimes, yes. More often when I read with the Kindle than with paper books, anymore. It's the rare thing that I haven't done while reading, though; my siblings have joked (lamely) that they never saw me without my face in a book while I was growing up. True enough.
  5. What do you do when you're in a reading slump?
what's a reading slump? When I'm not reading, I'm writing. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm sleeping.
  6. Are you easy to talk into doing something out of the ordinary?
depends on who's doing the talking. Some people are remarkably adept at such talking!
  7. Do you follow a daily routine?
yes--as do most people who are employed full-time, and most people who live alone, and...
  8. Where do you keep your keys?
right now, they're in their dish. That's where they stay when I'm home. When I'm at work, they're in my right front pocket (now that I'm locked out of practically everywhere I need to go there).
  9. What is your favorite song featuring a banjo?
    N/A
  10. Do you drink bottled water?
I do, but it's not a hipster-PITA thing. The local tap water tastes like metallic disaster and contains chemicals that I prefer not to think about, much less ingest. I'm not wild about the rampant use of plastic bottles, but I can accept that with greater alacrity than I can the idea of growing a third eye.
  11. How old is your blog?
almost 49--in dogs' years. (Yes, this is one of those questions that gets old after a while.)
[from The Cat, who got it here; the title quotation is by V.S. Pritchett]
