Easier cork the sea,
Or boil red wine from cloth,
Than rewrite history—
There is no remedy
To salvage shipwrecks drowned in wrath.
I spoke in anger to my friend,
And now I cannot make amend.
Better the tongue be still,
Than speak and then regret;
Better the bitter pill
Than wrath should drink its fill:
Some hearts forgive—but few forget.
I spoke in anger to my friend,
And now I cannot make amend.
