Fingers probe
The desert of a face
Diviners
Tear detectors
Below the surface
They plow their furrows
Their hives
Their palaces
Passions dissolve there
Rages also
Nothing glistens
Under the arcades
No trade
On the docks
Without a harbor
A single
Boat
Heads out to sea
[Claire Malroux {1925- }, 'Fingers Probe' {trans. from the French by Marilyn Hacker}, from The Vintage Book of Contemporary Poetry, edited by J.D. McClatchy]
