Out of the Clear Blue

~ Talked last night with someone from my past--I've known him almost half my life. The call itself wasn't entirely unexpected, but I'd forgotten that it might come last night so it was an unbelievably pleasant surprise. And even though we haven't talked on the phone in, what, 14 years? it was as if we were resuming a conversation that had left off only the night before. Comfortable, hilarious, and just right.
Heaven-sent friend. One of the loves of my life, to be sure, but for a goddamned better reason now than I'd have ever hoped before. Please, hire me, so you can fire me? "Or so I've read...."
~ While engaged in that conversation, my phone was going bonkers, making some kind of soft but nonetheless irritating noise. Discovered later that it was my call waiting (am I an idiot, or what?)--it must've been the first time that I've received a call while on a call. And caller #2 left a message that was so sweet and funny that I was more melty than an Andy s'more (although that doesn't take much). I felt very popular (my ego's a little bruised lately, so you'll have to cut me some slack in this regard).
~ I'm compiling a mix of heavy, loud music a la the Dodgeball mix. Today I'm listening to the new Lit CD in the car (we have John M#ll#nc@mp playing at work, since coworker T is a mammoth JM fan). The second song on the Lit disc is perfect for the mix:

Looks like They were Right

Turns out
I'm exactly how your friends thought I would turn out
Just another burn out

And it looks like
With we were nothing but
A real good looking ride
And I hate to say it but

It looks like they were right again tonight
And I'm probably gonna start another fight
And I'll hit the wall
Take a fall
Forget it all
Looks like they were right

Can't stop
Even though I know its just
A fucked up way to be
And I'm sure you hate me
Well stay tight
'Cause you haven't seen the rest
The worst part of me yet
And I hate to say it but

It looks like they were right again tonight
And I'm probably gonna start another fight
And we'll get it on
Do it wrong
All along
Looks like they were right

Everybody's got a reason and they're just not telling
Everybody's got the answer and they're just not telling

We start a fire a just to light it up
Realize we burned it down
To the ground

Turns out
I'm exactly how your friends thought I would turn out
Just another burn out

Well it looks like they were right again tonight
And I'm probably gonna start another fight
And I'll hit the wall
Take a fall
Forget it all
Looks like they were right
Again tonight
And I'm probably gonna start another fight

I wont give it up
I'll live it up
And keep it up
'Til I get it right

Looks like they were right

~ Speaking of music (mmmmm!), I cannot go one more moment without thanking, publicly, [former "friend"]. I received (at the perfect moment) a box of wonderful, well-chosen birthday loot in the mail yesterday--oodles of things with which to play, CDs to listen to (and to try & determine playlists for, no thanks to Drew!), books to read, and the perfect bookmarks for the diligent. You're a peach and I love it--thank you! Not least the card, which is posted in a place of honor next to my desk. [Now the office even smells girly, which the Sleekster should be lovin' right now. Ha!]

    Back to work. More later.
